MUST. RESIST. URGE. TO HOT ROD! Seriously how does one have a 5 window and not do it?

at least just update the chassis. slide the complete factory one out and swap for an aftermarket one. those stock A frames are fragile things and not safe at all.

Its a Ford it has a solid beam for the front. No A frames.

I meant "A" since its a model A ford. A stock A frame is very weak

Yeah that makes more sense. And yes you are right. Of course they weren't designed for much more than what they left the factory with.

no, they were not. you can box the frame to stiffen it up but a new aftermarket frame is just easier. the old school way would be swapping for a 32 ford frame. but requires a lot of work to mate the two. you can now buy aftermarket frames that use the beautiful 32 side rails but already fit an A

Yeah the aftermarket is pretty good about making anything possible.

Growing up, my next door neighbor was a longtime car collector and had one of these. It was actually his first car, buying it for $100 in 1949 (+/- $1000 in 2014 money) from a little old lady. He actually daily'd it occasionally, with a slightly tuned engine and stuff to help it keep up with traffic.

Got me thinking. Do you know how many arms were broken trying to start those things? It was just a part of owning an automobile. No one sued Ford. Now if your car cuts off or an airbag fails you start a class action suit. Car makers have so many complicated systems the days.. Yet if there is a single failure they are screwed.

It must be stock, you blasphemer! Go find a repro body! >__<

How could this possibly be the SECOND most interesting?

I saw another car while driving that I couldn't identify right away. It looked to be a 30s model of something. If it's there tomorrow I'll try to take a picture so oppo can identify

NO real steel. All the way. fenders and hood, GONE. Ford parts, GONE. Roof, Chopped a couple inches. Parts added, Independent front suspension, Jag rear end, 5 speed manual, Buick Nailhead or Olds Rocket v8, and a dark red satin finish paint with solid black steelies chrome hub caps and white wall tires. Those are just the major things.

Laws were different then too. Another thing is everything was more dangerous. Children were allowed to work in factories for example. Or the fact that cars originally came with plate glass. That stuff would slice you up and you'd bleed out.

Why always jag rear ends? I see that a lot and figure there must be a reason.

IRS, but also compact enough to fit within the standard width of the car.
![]() 11/30/2014 at 13:31 |

Because it's one of the few independent rear suspensions that is easily swapable.

No no no no no no no. Sweetie, no. If you're rodding it at least go the 100% original route and make it a moonshine runner, with mods so old school they go before the 1950s.
Actually, nevermind. As awesome as that is, don't touch it.

Nah, 50's era mods are the way to go.

It fits within the stock frame dimensions nicely.

I drove by this morning and the car was still on the lot. When I went back this afternoon I had time to stop and take pictures and it was gone. It may have been inside the shop or maybe they sold it. It's a shop/car lot and they have unique cars all the time. They had 2 VW vans (old style) and one Westfalia at the same time last summer.
